When it comes to the first half of the 19th century, we can talk about several styles of art. On the one hand there was Classicism, which was inspired by the culture of ancient Greece, as is evident in the carving design. The popular cover color was “ivory” with gilding and polychrome. The Napoleonic age is associated with the French style called the Empire. This was a further developmental step linked to Classicism. It originated from ancient art and hence seems more cumbersome than previous styles. The furniture is mostly gilded, decorated with pattern carvings or images of gods. Empire clocks, tables, and secretaries were very common. The Biedermeier, derived from the Empire but freed from its excessive decorative elements, has launched what came to be seen as a bourgeois style. In our warehouse showroom we offer round, oval, glazed cabinets or secretarial tables.
